SCENTFULLY YOURS: MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!! TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR!!!

SCENTFULLY YOURS: MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!! TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR!!!

SCENTFULLY YOURS: MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!! TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR!!!

SCENTFULLY YOURS: MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!! TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR!!!

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!! TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR!!!

This year has been a year of miracles for me and I am SO grateful and happy!
The power of believing and putting forth a positive and authentically grateful attitude can be palpable! And when you believe in miracles they really do come true! I have two tangible miracles to tell you about.
The first miracle happened to me on February 24 of this year. I was so happy that I immediately wrote an article and sent it to the New York Times for the Metropolitan Diary – but it wasn’t published. This is what I wrote.
MIRACLES HAPPEN – only in New York!
Last night I braved the elements and hopped a cab from the Upper East Side to 18th and 10th. The streets were icy and snow was falling and it was treacherous getting in and out of the cab. I complimented myself on successfully navigating out of the cab without slipping or sliding. When I went into the building to check my coat, fur headband, scarf and gloves, I noticed my handbag was missing from my shoulders. OH NO!! I looked but sure enough it was not there! Not again I said to myself! (A month ago I was in Madrid and my wallet was pick-pocketed in the metro subway with all my credit cards, money, identity cards….. everything! And it was such a hassle and so time-consuming to stop the credit cards and get new ones while in Europe)
I must be losing it I said! Thankfully I had my cell phone in my hand and was calm on the outside but so upset inside and angry at myself for being so forgetful! I’ll have to try to put a stop on the new cards…… again! What a waste of time and how silly was I, I kept on saying to myself. But in the back of my mind I kept on saying, well it’s not that bad; it’s only a few credit cards!

Sure enough 35 minutes later the cell phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number to me. The voice asked SUE PHILLIPS? I said Yes! You found my bag…thank you so much! He said….Its’ Phil! I COULDN”T BELIEVE IT!!! It was my cousin! I was astounded! His wife Tracy had seen the bag on the back seat and was going to give it to the cab driver but thought that she would try and locate the owner and looked inside. She saw a few credit cards in my wallet. My cousin saw my name on the cards and picked up his cell phone and called me. None of us could believe it! What are the chances of a handbag being retrieved by a family member who got into the same cab minutes later, in New York City and found a handbag belonging to his cousin whom he only sees once a year to celebrate New Year’s Day?

A miracle, I said to myself!! In a city of 12 million people, what are the odds that someone I know, let alone a relative, would take the cab I had just vacated, and find my bag and call me!!

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN! I am so grateful and thankful for this incredible happenstance!
So, here is the other tangible miracle I experienced today, December 21. I was meeting my colleague Joanne for a presentation to a major Corporation, and just as I was about to get out of the cab, she called me. I told her I was on 50th and 6th and would meet her in 3 minutes. I began to walk to the building and had a nagging suspicion that I may have dropped my phone because I didn’t remember putting it in my bag after the call.

When I saw Joanne I asked her to call my cell. I didn’t hear anything ring or vibrate. Oh no! I lost my phone! We went to the meeting and before it began, I asked Joanne to call my phone again. Nothing, zippo, nada! On the way out I asked her to call it. Nothing, zippo, nada! So she suggested that we walk to the spot where I had alit from the cab, and we both thought that perhaps it might have been placed on a phone booth…or something!! Nothing, zippo, nada! Joanne said to me something like, Sue, you believe in miracles –we need one now. Then she looked down on the sidewalk, in the road, and in the grate and there in the dirt, was my cell phone with a flashing light (from all the calls she had made to it) Can you believe it? HOORAY!!! It dropped into the grate as I got out of the cab. I was so happy to see it! Now, how to retrieve it?
There were 3 Police officers who were directing traffic and I asked them if we could lift up the grate. One of them, Police Officer Christopher Williams, Shield #23928 was SO helpful. He said he would try. Now a crowd had gathered around, wondering what was going on with 3 police officers focusing on something in the road. Thankfully, there was a hot dog vendor nearby, and I asked him if he had some tongs. He came over with a crowbar and Officer Williams began to nudge the phone towards the top of the grate with the crowbar. Then the other hot dog vendor brought over a pair of tongs. Office Williams nimbly and deftly inched and manipulated the cell phone to the top of the grate and was able to take hold of the phone with the tongs and then pulled the phone out. Hallelujah I cried – it’s a miracle!!

I thanked him and wanted to give him something but he refused and said I should write to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly which I shall do. He said he wanted to continue the Christmas Spirit of good cheer and miracles! And the Hot dog vendor and his partner were also wonderful and helpful. When I asked him where he was from he said Egypt. I thanked him with a SHOKRUN and a crisp $20 bill which was all I had on me.

Joanne and I then went to have an end-of-year holiday lunch and kept on thinking how lucky it was to have found the phone. Had it been raining, or snowing it would never have been found. The reality is that losing a phone is not a tragedy. It’s a hassle and time consuming and an annoyance….but we are all so attached to our digital toys, that finding it was a joy!
The moral of the story is that MIRACLES CAN and DO Happen! Believe! Good things will materialize. Joanne commented on how lucky I am. I agree! I am SO grateful for that and attribute it to my late dad; whose birthday would have been yesterday….he always said that “we are the lucky Phillips’s”~~
In the spirit of good tidings, I am writing this today to remind everyone that you can experience miracles and happiness. In the face of difficulty and economic hardship, believe in good things……be positive, be grateful and I promise you, MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!
I am grateful for the friends and family in my life and to my dear friend and colleague Joanne Cardello who has been an amazing support to me, and to Scenterprises and The Perfume Studio.

Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year to you all.

Scentfully,

Sue.

CUSTOM SCENTS and MULTI-SENSORY EVENTS in SAN DIEGO – OCTOBER 2010

Our Celebration of the Senses, Multi-Sensory Grace Phillips Retrospective Art Exhibition event at Scripps Hospital in San Diego to benefit Alzheimer’s and Scripps Hospital brought together fabulous ART, FOOD, MUSIC, WINE, AMBIENT SCENTS and a wonderful turnout of spectacular Art by Grace Phillips – former watercolorist and calligrapher from South Africa, who now suffers from Alzehimer’s.

A two year journey, my brother and I were thrilled to be able to honor our mom who attended the event, and even though she may not have known what was going on, I am hoping that somehow the love and good feelings that emanated that night made its way to her!

To see the event and the paintings, log onto her website: http://www.2marvelous4words.com/. Scroll to the Left Hand Side to see the actual exhibition of over 160 paintings and pictures of all who attended.

Sales of the art will be going on Ebay soon and as part of the Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s and Scripps we are promoting a wonderful GRAND PRIZE DRAWING of a fabulous round-trip ticket for two from South African Airways and a 3-night visit to the most exclusive 5-star ETALI SAFARI LODGE Game Reserve.

SCENTSORY SEPTEMBER - Scent, Art, Wine Events, Seminars & Workshops

Halfway through September….where has this year gone?

As we embark on the last quarter of the year, it is hard to believe that we are already well into the next millennium….remember when it was hard to even conceive of the year two thousand….let alone we are now almost at the end of two thousand and ten!

What are our hopes, dreams and plans for the balance of the year ??

We have some great events happening both in NY and San Diego.

Firstly, we just celebrated Fashion Night Out at the Plaza Hotel’s Grand Concourse, with a Fashion and Fragrance Custom Perfume Event at the fabulous Francesco Fino Atelier. What a night of electricity and fun!

We are now planning all kinds of events: a 50th Birthday party for 50 women celebrating life and friendship with our Celebration of the Senses Custom Perfume event.
Several new Spas are becoming Spa Ambassadors with The Perfume Studio products and events and two new Fragrance Ambassadors will be joining us in September – Welcome ladies!

September is also the HBA EXPO and I shall be speaking at a seminar entitled ‘SNIFFING OUT OPPORTUNITIES” with Amy Marks-McGee, President, Trendincite LLC.  Don't miss this seminar!

SNIFFING OUT OPPORTUNITIES:
New Perspectives On Fragrance

Wednesday, September 29 3:00pm-4pm

After the SNIFFING OUT OPPORTUNITIES seminar, Sue Phillips of Scenterprises Ltd will introduce a Custom Perfume event so you can discover your Sense of Smell at an interactive, creative fun workshop and create your own scent. There is no cost to attend the workshop for HBA registrants. To purchase your custom creation, the discounted HBA price is only $75.00, and a lucky winner will have the chance to win their own Bespoke Perfume!

At this workshop, guests will explore and discover the wonders of perfume! We offer a brief overview of the history and sensory aspects of fragrance and how memory and emotions are so interwoven with our second strongest sense. We then take guests on an olfactive ‘fragrance journey’ and invite them to participate in the creation of their OWN custom fragrance.

We explore 18 different blends spanning the entire range of the fragrance palette - from citrus, spices, florals, musks to woods, balsamics and mossy notes to name a few. Guests select their preferred blends and we decant their 'formula' into lovely designer-color purse sprays and elegant canisters or crystal bottles. Guests ‘name or theme’ their creation and receive a Certificate of Registration. We store their formula in our data base for ease of reordering.
The event is creative, interactive, informative, innovative, "scentillating" and so much fun!

We would like to get as many people attend as possible to attend the event.

In addition, this exhibition will have a South African and San Diego focus and we would love to get door prizes, and other items that would create awareness and interest so that people will be excited to bid on the paintings and win fabulous raffle prizes. If you have items that you know would like to be sponsored or donated, please let us know because we are anticipating fabulous attendance, and amazing editorial from TV and Press.
In our fast paced world with Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, Regular Emails, Cell Phones, and a slew of other Social network media outlets, we are neglecting the very essence and sensory gifts that God gave us to help stimulate our memories, emotions, tastes and smells. We can never go back communicating with smoke signals, and carrier pigeons, but we can ‘stop and smell the roses” and our Custom Perfume events are an ideal way to spend an hour and inhale and Celebrate our Senses”

SCENTFULLY YOURS: JANUARY 2010 ......Updating this blog

SCENTFULLY YOURS: JANUARY 2010 ......Updating this blog

JANUARY 2010 ......Updating this blog

Finally, I have the time to put pen to paper to reflect on a wonderful mother/daughter trip and probably the best trip of my adult-life. I am so grateful to have had this fantastic opportunity!!

I have just spent 3 weeks with my college-aged daughter in Spain and Morocco and we had the time to rekindle our already-good relationship. However, as one can imagine, the thought of spending 3 weeks 24/7 with a college-aged-post-teen-age young woman, who has very definite ideas, likes and dislikes can be daunting, and although I didn’t give it a thought whilst preparing for the trip, I must say that on the trip, we both discussed the fact that it could have been a huge challenge but we loved the time together to just BE! To relax and sleep when we wanted to. To eat what and when we wanted to. To have the opportunity to spend hours in shops learning about, and trying the fragrant herbs and spices in the Souks in the Medinas of Fez and Marrakech, or to even to go H&M in Malaga or little Spanish boutiques in Torremolinos to find outfits for New Year’s Eve with no-one hassling us to ‘hurry up!’

Life without deadlines was bliss (other than needing to be punctual to avoid missing flights and trains in foreign countries) Sheer bliss!

What started out as a trip to Spain to help pack up my daughter who had been studying in Seville for the first semester of her junior year, and then to help get her installed for the second semester in Barcelona 3 weeks later, turned into an amazing adventure for us both. We had always wanted to visit Morocco and due to the close proximity of Southern Spain to Fez we decided to explore the mysteries of Morocco before beginning her next semester.

I certainly had a great deal of trepidation about being away from Scenterprises for 3 full weeks, stemming from the fact that as a business owner of a fledgling fragrance marketing company which has started to gain traction and which I am so excited about, I did not feel that I should be away that long. However, I justified my fears by internalizing (and …substantiated by friends and colleagues) that ‘nothing REALLY happens during the holiday’s’ and the thought of “when else will I ever have the opportunity to have 3 weeks’ carefree vacation with my daughter again?” And of course the biggest fear was being away over the Christmas Holidays and needing to generate business in an awful economy. As a friend of mine says OY VEIGH!

However this past year I resolved to follow the principals of Eckart Tolle and Gina Lake which, in a nutshell, is The Power of Now and Living in the Now...which means living TODAY and not in the past nor the future. Thinking about the past cannot change it, and to worry about and plan for the future won’t make it happen the way one anticipates it to, and so with an incredibly positive attitude about my new-found freedom, and being so grateful for the blessings in my life, and for the opportunity to spend time with my daughter and experience new horizons, I booked the trip and planned our itinerary.

I arrived in Seville on Dec 19 and this tall, beautiful, head-full of amazing curls intertwined with her signature-turquoise-blue color pashmina scarf tied' boho-chic' around her neck came flying into the airport to meet me. Her wonderful big smile soon turned into tears as we embraced and clung to each other, neither one of us wanting to break the moment with trivial words of welcome. We then explored the delights of Seville and drank Agua de Sevilla - a fantastic concotion of pineapple, rum, vodka, champagne (!)...and watched the flamenco dances and singers!

We stayed in Seville for 3 days, drove down to Cordoba stopping at Carmona and then Malaga to pick up a friend and then to stay in Torremolinos for 5 days – where it rained pretty much non-stop The car and my driving on a stick shift was yet another story! (for another blog!)

For someone who has been in the Cosmetic & Fragrance Industry for the past 30 years, and who is now offering Multi-Sensory Custom Perfume Experiences, I was eagerly anticipating our sojourn to Morocco and excited to experience the sensorial delights I have read about for years. And what an experience it was!

From a multi-sensory standpoint, the Souks or markets in the Medinas of Morocco are extraordinary. One’s senses come alive and are constantly delighted – the "ooooh’s" and "aaaaah’s" are well deserved.

Our actual pictures will be posted on Facebook soon, and I shall also describe in detail the amazing fragrances, ingredients and impressions of the extraordinary scentsory aspect in a soon-to-be-published article in a fabulous magazine.

Happy New Year, (and this one has been really HAPPY thus far!)
Scentfully,
Sue
